Context
As President of China announced for War preparedness to Their Army and Chinese Soldier infiltrated in the Eastern Ladakh to keep warmth the situation during the Global Pandemic and Economic Slow down, We, The people of India decided to start a campaign #Boycott_China. In this we will be not buying any Chinese Goods and not using any Chinese apps. Tik Tok, Which is a short video platform, very popular in India, is a Chinese app. Recently, Mitron App (Supposed to be the Indian Version of Tik Tok) took on Tik Tok and Millions of Indians downloaded it. As of now The Mitron App was suspended from Play store due to privacy policy.
Connection to Pakistan
Mitron App, supposed to be an alternative an Chinese Tik Tok, seems to be a hastily repackaged version of Tic Tic - A Pakistani clone of Byte dance's Tik Tok. Irfan Sheikh, founder and chief executive of Tic Tic's developer Qboxus said that "The promoters behind Mitron had simply purchased Tic Tic's source code via CodeCanyon for $34, Uploaded it to Google Play store with their own Logo."
Reason behind Suspension
According to the report, The Mitron App has been suspended for violating the spam and minimum functionality developer policies under the Google Play store.
Safe or not ???
Usually app developers buy source code for cheap and work on their own customization and improvements to quickly launch an app. But in this hurry to make profit on the occasion of #Ban_TikTok, The creator of Mitron supposed to be an alternative an Chinese Tik Tok, seems to have missed out on making necessary changes on the source code of Tic Tic - A Pakistani clone of Byte dance's Tik Tok. Cyber security researchers stated that it is risky to use as the app does not have any additional firewall or software security on top of the source code. The privacy policy is weak and that can put user data at risk in the long run.
Privacy Policy linked to U.S.A.
However Mitron had updated their privacy policy with a document that was incidentally linked to California's Privacy Laws. Hence indicating that it had no effect what so ever in India. As such there is no reason why a respectable app that claimed to have been "Made in India" would have a privacy policy linked to U.S.A's law.
